Beauty Myth: Joni Mitchell
Every other week, we hand over the latest and favouritest in colour cosmetics to a local artist or illustrator.

Every other week, we hand over the latest and favouritest in colour cosmetics to a local artist or illustrator. In turn, they paint a portrait of someone they find beautiful. This week, our talented intern and NSCAD fine-arts grad Elise Troister paints her idol, and Canada’s treasure, Joni Mitchell.

LIPS: This fall, reds get warmer. Think spice, think wine, think “holy wine” if you’re thinking Joni Mitchell. Elise used Cover Girl Lip Perfection in “Burn,” a glinting maple red ($10.95 at Shoppers Drug Mart) and Joe Fresh cream lipstick in rich, pure “Empress” and russety “Enamor” ($6; for Joe Fresh Style locations, see ) with plummy Cover Girl Lip Perfection liner in“Sophisticated” (Shoppers Drug Mart).

SKIN: New matte concealers from NARS come in perfectly minimal tubes and a welcome array of hues. Elise used “Amande,“Biscuit,” and “Cacao” ($25 at Holt Renfrew, The Bay and Sephora). To create Joni’s epic cheekbones, Elise used CoverGirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in “Lush Berry” ($14.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart).

EYES: A smoky eye, done properly, is never not cool. Elise used a NARS eyeshadow duo in “Dogon” and Joe Fresh fine-tip liquid eyeliner in “Black” ($6).

NAILS: Soft, clear greys and greens suit the fading-summer mood. Elise used Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure in “Gray by Gray” ($12 at Shoppers Drug Mart) and Joe Fresh polish in “Khaki” ($4 at Joe Fresh Style locations).
