Fashion Week: Ashtiani and Caitlin Power
Two young designers joined forces to present their debut collections.

The Ashtiani and Caitlin Power show did not disappoint. Both designers who competed against each other in the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s New Labels Competition (Ashtiani the winner and Power, one of the four runner-ups) joined forces to present their debut collections at LG Fashion Week.

Nothing felt amateur about neither of two collections. Both designers paid strong attention to craftsmanship and fit.

Power’s homage to Star Trek—a boxy wool dress with seams clean finished using orange leather trimming—was a standout piece. Plentiful were waist-side cut-outs and sheer blouses layered with vertical hanging strips in bright orange and cobalt blue.

Ashtiani’s collection was much more softer in tone, taking subtle cues from Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday as seen in her colour blocked jumpers and floor length gowns. It will be interesting to see what these two come up with next season: Ashtiani and Power seem more than just one-trick ponies.
