Uniform Project: Ad Women
Some cool broads in the business of selling desire.

Last week, Sarah Blais shot ad men. In this week’s edition of the ongoing Uniform Project, our trust photog steps back into the advertising agencies to get a glimpse of what the women are wearing, where they’re shopping, and what they’re cooking. And if that sounds a little domestic-spherical, remember we asked the dudes the same q’s.

At BBDO, 33-year-old art director Yasmin Sahni has just come back from a big surf trip. She’s been with the agency for 1.5 years and has been art directing for five. Her range of work styles come from Holts, Trove, Aritzia, Gap, Club Monaco, Lavish & Squalor and her stepmother’s closet (literally). The jewelry she’s rocking is from India and Italy. Her favorite campaign is Beta 7 by Weiden Kennedy, the last concert she went to was Girltalk, and the burger she is eating is from Big Smoke (it was the juiciest, biggest burger on the menu). Today Yasmin’s got “Dramamine by Modest Mouse” on repeat, and last night she cooked navy beans breaded with panko, along with pancetta, fresh sage and olive oil. Hungry yet?

The next stop was Y & R (Young & Rubicam), an agency with 186 offices in 90 countries — their mission? “Resist the Usual,” which could also be the motto of associate creative director (and copywriter) Jennifer Rossini’s lifestyle and wardrobe. Jennifer’s been at Y&R for 10 months and loves the energy of the agency.  She keeps individuality in her weekly uniform, but since joining Y&R she’s put more effort into being “fashionable” (due to frequent elevator rides with Holt Renfrew head office employees). She’s been obsessed with pop culture and writing since a young age so advertising seemed like the perfect mix. At her job creativity is encouraged; even having a regular coffee mug wouldn’t cut it. Today she’s wearing Jeffrey Campbell Boots, Topshop pants, Mendocino shirt, rings from Mexico, and her scarf is from “somewhere in London.” Jennifer shops at Holt Renfrew, Bicyclette, Fawn Boutique, Zara, Topshop, and Lavish & Squalor, but her preference is finding inspiration in cities abroad. Online she shops at ASOS, YOOX, Ssense, and ShopBop. Next week she’s going to see the Kills for the third time and is super stoked.

Since Bensimon Byrne did give us the idea to shoot ad agency style, we decided to feature a couple of their girls. Meredith Klapowich is a 32-year-old art director who’s been with Bensimon Byrne for six years. Her favorite spot is the Sony Bravia bouncy-ball commercial for its aesthetic and emotive experience. Meredith’s uniform at work alternates from jeans and sweaters to tights and skirts, but always with a good pair of boots. Her chapeau is H&M (mens accessories), her sweater is from Aritzia, pants are Urban Outfitters, and boots are Ash. Meredith’s jewelry is usually vintage; she picks it up when travelling to other cities (or when travelling to her mothers closet). Online she shops at The Outnet, Style Mint, and All Saints, and offline she’ll grab stuff at Zara or Urban Outfitters. Meredith is currently working on the re-launch of Style Notebook, and the last concert she attended was The Black Keys (she had the “raddest” seats).

Wendy Doan is a just-wed 31-year-old from Alberta who’s been specializing in account management at Bensimon Byrne for the past seven years. Her daily uniform consists of skirts and sweaters, plus anything with feminine flare. She’s a big fan of shopping online at Bluefly, Outnet, and Myhabit. Offline you can find her at Anthropologie, Aritzia, Zara, and J.Crew. Her constant interactions with clients keep her outfits more formal, but still comfortable. Her skirt is Club Monaco, Boots are Replay, the bag is Hayden Harnett, and her sweater is J. Crew. Her dad’s a goldsmith and makes the majority of her jewelry, including her beautiful wedding ring (adorable). Wendy went to a Chicago concert recently (yes, they’re still around) but left after 15 minutes because the lead singer wasn’t there. The last meal she cooked… is still cooking. Braised short ribs with red wine, beef broth, onions, parsnips, and carrots slow-cooking over night for dinner. She said she woke up this morning smelling ribs, not Folgers. Any husband’s dream?
