Some might call it “stalking.” We prefer “observations of human nature in the pursuit of artistic inspiration.” Or spying. At any rate, NSCAD grad and Standard staffer Elise Troister likes to make art from people-creeping. Which is the foundation of Elise’s bi-weekly art column, Stranger Canvas. The concept: Elise loiters in some public place, painting the people she finds there in unguarded moments. Location: T&T Supermarket, Thornhill. Time: Sunday at 1pm. A woman decides to splurge on Hello Kitty humidifier; what a steal. Fiends gather around T&T’s finest tofu chef hoping to get a taste. Fish watch anxiously as their friends are handed off to hungry customers.
