A new website aims to create a safe and civil place online for Torontonians to talk about their city.
Described as a “community for people who care about Toronto”, Village is a Reddit-like website where users can share, upvote and discuss pictures, videos, maps and articles relating to life in Toronto.
According to its creator, Steve Benjamins, Village doesn’t intend to replace the Reddits and blogTOs of the world. Instead, Benjamins says he started the website “because I couldn’t find a place online with reasonable, civil discussion about Toronto.”
He adds, “Village is an experiment. It’s a place that—while honest about the challenges Toronto faces—tries to celebrate and share what’s awesome about Toronto too.”
The website benefits from a design and interface that is clean and easy-to-use (Benjamins regularly shares his thoughts on how to build a social website on the website’s blog). Of course, only time will tell if the website is able to build a significant community. In the meantime, it never hurts to have an additional voice.
